This was the birth of what would become known as the green movement. He defines reason as an attempt to discover certainty or probability through the use of our natural faculties in the investigation of the world. Simple ideas do very well. Instead, he favored methods that would help children to understand the difference between right and wrong and to cultivate a moral sense of their own. As such, it is easy for these ideas to be good because the mind has a clear sense of what the ideas should be like as it constructs them. Every environmental problem identified at the original Earth Summit has gotten worse in the intervening twenty years, often very much worse, and there is no sign of this changing. So governments are, in many ways, ill-equipped to enforce the adoption of a particular religion because individual people have an almost perfect control of their own thoughts.
